A cattle crush or a squeeze chute is a strongly built stall or cage for holding cattle, horses or other livestock. This type of cages is used for holding stock safely while they are examined, marked or given treatment. Generally, the farmers use a number of fences that are attached with temporary fence clamp, to guide the livestock to the crush. These crush are used to keep animal and people handling them safe. The close fitting cage ensures that the animal stands still, without any chance of moving or running away. The purpose of it is to minimise the risk of injury to the animal and the operator while they work on the animals.
These crushes can be completely fixed or mobile. The most common ones are the semi-permanent ones, being potential movable bust designed to be fixed at one place. A good crush reduces stress on animals and the operator as well, making the complete process productive and safe.
The front and hind part of the crush is adjustable to accommodate animals of different size and may have a chin or neck bat to help hold animal’s head still. Crushes made out of timber are cheaper and tend to deteriorate with time, and even may cause injury to animals. Hence, it is ideal to go for metal crush.
